Ancient Relics

Later we visited some of the historical sights in Cyprus. The island was the site of the first Christian Mission... in about 50 AD Paul the Apostle visited to spread the word of Jesus. The church was established, and the site still contains relics from the earliest times.

The existing church is "only" about a thousand years old. The pillars in the foreground are the remnants of a much earlier time.

The pillar in the foreground was supposedly used to tie up the Apostle Paul and beat him before the locals decided his message was worth listening to.

Elsewhere we found some Byzantine era mosaics.
